James Roddy learned some pottery techniques from Billy Henson in the latter 1990's. He then proceeded to make his own pottery. He passed away about 2006. The rooster stands 12″ tall by 6.75″ max width. This is a double orange/tan and white swirl alkalined- glaze fired rooster, decorated with glass. Also, the feather tails are created to extend the swirl style into other features of the rooster. The light blue glass adds almost a triple swirl effect. Another feature that it is neat is the circular pattern applied to the body. possibly applied by some sort of tool or the end of a straw. There is a very unique way he decorated the edges of the back feathers where he incised lines down the full length of each of back ends, either two or three. depending on the feather. This is a nice addition. There are some nice quartz (i.e. feldspar) in glaze/clay. Signed & dated from 1997. Excellent condition; there is at the base what appears to be a small kiln stick on the back side. $30 s/i.
