Reggie Meaders Early Rutile Face Jug

Reggie Meaders Early Rutile Face Jug

This face is by far the best Reggie Meaders (1919-2009) face jug NCPottery has ever owned and we have had it about a decade. Dark alkaline & wood-fired, likely in Lanier’s kiln. Signed next to one of the ears. But the far most interesting aspect of this face jug is what appears to be blue rutile (vs glass) that came through in the firing. This is particularly well observed toward the base of the jug. To me this is simply amazing. It is possible Reggie added some rutile to the glaze, but that is something that potters have done the past decade (i.e. at least in the CV). Teeth are possibly rock or his more traditional clay. The face jug stands 10.5″ tall by 7.5″ max width. Mint condition. $30 s/i.
