This is a Marie Rogers Mini Buggy Face Jug, made by her circa 1980's. Marie was from Meadesville, GA. She was a pioneer, as a woman folk potter, amongst the heavily male potter dominated southern pottery tradition. She was a very special woman to know, and very humble. She fell into pottery in many senses because her husband passed away ~ 40 years ago, and took up the tradition of the Rogers family of potters. This mini face is an absolute favorite in the mini buggy or squat form. The glaze is really neat. Collectors love mini Marie faces, and the initial three chosen to present on ncpottery.com, are top notch. Barely notable is that Marie signed and stamped the tiny base edge of the face. The face stands a tiny 2.5″ tall by 2.25″ max width. Mint. $10 s/i.
