Reola Harris Pottery Catawba Basket SC

Reola Harris (1921-1991) was a famed Master Potter of Catawba Indian Nation. She began signing pots in the late 1970's and earlier worked in the Cherokee Trade. She was the sister of potter Nola Campbell and twin sister of pottery Viola Robbins. Also her daughter Cora Hedgepath is an active successful Catawba potter of next generation. Reola's works could be described as the most abstract of the Catawba potters and her pots have bulbous thickly walled forms. This piece, a standing basket w/ 4 eggs, is a wonderful example of her creativity as an artisan. The basket itself, in remarkable condition, is its own work of art. Then Reola coil-formed and pit-fired 4 clay eggs to be displayed in the pots. There are red, orange, and black hues in the pieces that comprise the pottery. The basket has a length of 8.5″ by 6.5″ wide, and height of 5″. Excellent condition. $20 s/i.
