This is a wonderful example of a Catawba Indian smoke pipe made by Master Potter Helen Beck on 9/7/1993. Per Catawba tradition the pot was coil-formed by Helen & then pit-fired. The figure's form is a turtle effigy formed into a pipe. The animal's back has a finely incised scale pattern. The miniature has four tiny legs, a protruding head and a tail. The firing finished color scheme is distinct, mostly black and raw sienna. The piece stands 1.25″ tall by 2.5″ max width. Mint Condition. $85 & $10 s/i.
