Catawba Indian Pottery Early Fluted Canoe South Carolina SC

Earlier 20th century. This fluted canoe is an emblematic Catawba Indian piece. I would think this would have been touristware. The potter could have just easily made a smooth edge, but he or she fluted the pot to add some artistry to the piece. Overall very good condition, of most significant note is the wear to each of the canoe’s bow and stern tips. The hues are mostly charred black with small traces of raw sienna towards both sides. The canoe is 6.25” long, 3.5” max width, and 2” max height. Mint Condition. $60 and $12 s/i.
