Grace Nell Hewell Pottery Small Face Jug

Grace Nell Hewell Pottery Small Face Jug

Grace Nell Hewell married into the famous multi-generational family of the Hewell pottery when she wed the recently passed Harold Hewell. She also likes to turn some folk art pottery, particularly face jugs. This face jug is a classic smaller sized dark alkaline example by her. She is still active, although this face jug was made in 1999. The face stands 7″ tall by 5.5″ max width. Signed & dated 2002 on the base. Mint condition. $15 s/i.

This is a really nice eye-appealing Steve Abee face jug. Turned and fired by Steve in about 2008. Steve and his wife Rita have their pottery operation in Lenoir, NC. He has been turning for over 2 decades in the Catawba Valley, and is a very important part of the potter community there. He sells at his kiln sales and at the annual Hickory Festival in March of each year. Also Steve sets up at the annual Hillsville, VA festival Labor Day weekend. Always a fun time to visit with Steve there. This face jug is fired with a less common lighter alkaline. Much of his pottery is the darker traditional alkaline glass. There are glass runs come off the handle and two eyebrows. Marked SA on the forehead and signed on the base. The jug stands 9″ tall. Excellent condition.

Shipping is $18 via USPS, which includes insurance and double boxing always. NC sales tax will be added for North Carolina residents.
