This is a Marie Rogers Mini Cobalt Face Jug, made by her circa 1990. Marie was from Meadesville, GA. She was a pioneer, as a woman folk potter, amongst the heavily male potter dominated southern pottery tradition. She was a very special woman to know, and very humble. She fell into pottery in many senses because her husband passed away ~ 40 years ago, and took up the tradition of the Rogers family of potters. Cobalt glaze on her face jugs is rare, and I find it particularly colorful and eye-appealing. The face stands a tiny 2.5″ tall by 2.25″ max width. Simply adorable. Mint. $10 s/i.
