Steve Abee Pottery Early Swirl 2 Handle Jug NC

This is an early (i.e. mid 1990's likely) swirl 2 handle jug by potter Steve Abee. His early non-face swirl pots are particularly impressive in the similarity to the 1930's Catawba Valley swirl art pottery of the Propst & Reinhardt shops. Steve and his wife Rita have their pottery operation in Lenoir, NC. He has been turning for over 2 decades in the Catawba Valley, and is a very important part of the potter community there. He sells at his kiln sales and at the annual Hickory Festival in March of each year. Also Steve sets up at the annual Hillsville, VA festival Labor Day weekend. Always a fun time to visit with Steve there. This jug is simply awesome, and has the beloved firing imperfection known as 'blue rutile'. Bonus incised sine wave line decoration on the shoulder. Marked SEA on the below the jug lip (i.e. earlier stamp) and signed on the base. The jug stands 6.5″ tall by 4.5″ max width. Mint condition. $15 s/i.
