Matt Hallyburton Pottery Durham NC Face Jug

Presenting a rare face jug by Matt Hallyburton, circa 2010, post him seeing some Kim Ellington face jugs. Matt turned his interpretation of these face jugs in his own style. This is the the most bulbous of those examples. It would have wood-fired in Hal Dedmond's kiln post being turned in Durham in the basement of NCPottery.com (where had his wheel/studio for several years). Matt employed copious amounts of glass that melted down the sides of the jug. Also lots of facial decoration and rock teeth that were fused into the mouth of the face by the glass and alkaline glaze. This face is extra special because it is inscribed 'Bull City' for Durham where it was made, as well employing his 'H' stamp on the shoulder and base. The height is 9.5″ tall by 7.5″ max width. Mint condition. $25 s/i.
