Here is a Matt Hallyburton Face Jug glazed in what I will describe as early Edgefield Pottersville type glaze. Jugs from that pottery circa 1830 would sometimes be marked with single letters, not unlike the 'M' that Matt stamped into this jug. Matt is potter originally from the Catawba Valley, but has been based in Durham for a number of years. He loves to experiment with his forms & glazes, also dabbling into different types of native NC clays. This is a neat example with a runny light alkaline/ash glaze of his face jug form. Particularly unique. The jug stands 9″ tall by 7″ max width. Mint condition. $18 s/i.
